Camping

Wild men!

This past weekend was our annual church campout. A bunch of people from our church essentially take over Metzler Park and have a great time playing, relaxing, singing, and eating together. This year we had an additional camper in our tent...

So which tent is mine? And where's my hammock?!

Teaming up with another small family really made things run smoothly.

Camp management team: Sarah and LaVonne.

Cooking dinner: salmon and grilled broccoli.

The boys loved playing together. Anders is walking already so he was always on the move. Miles was more content to sit and look around.

Hanging out with friends in the field. Push faster, Anders!

Noticing the natural world.

The boys meet Murray dog.

Tag! You're it!

I guess this grass stuff is all right.

Enjoying outdoor church on Sunday morning.

On a little hike to the swimming hole.

I'm so glad we're bringing Miles into nature this early. He clearly loves it! I can't wait to go camping again!

Memorial Day Hike

We rode the MAX light rail just two stops east to the Portland Zoo stop (which is hundreds of feet under ground and you have to take an elevator to daylight) and began our hike through Hoyt Arboretum, passing through the Rose Garden and back home by Washington Park. We visited the Vietnam Veterans Memorial which honors Oregon soldiers. Next, into the forest passing sequoias, redwoods and plenty of other beautiful trees and bushes. Miles slept half the time, but was awake to see the Rose Garden and crawl around in the grass. Unfortunately, most of the roses have yet to bloom. I love that this is all just a mile away from home!

Miles's Baby Dedication

On May 1 we had Miles dedicated at church. This is a public commitment before the Lord and our church family to submit our child to God's will and to raise him according to God's Word and God's ways. We are involved in the raising not only our own child but the other children in the church, even if only in small ways. We are all the church body, and this baby dedication is a recognition of one of our newest commitments. Thanks to Eric Davis, Elder for his prayer and to my dad, Craig, who was able to come up for the weekend from So. Cal.
