Bulk Food Order

Miles tastes the first shipment of oats. He says it tastes like a brown bag.

We've been ordering bulk foods from Azure Standard, a local online farm that "specialize(s) in natural, organic, earth-friendly foods and products." They ship from Dufur, OR (100 miles east of Portland) and we pick up our boxes at the drop site in SE Portland (10 miles from our home).

Beans, grains, nuts, etc.

The big bag of oats.

Sarah even found some goat butter (bottom center) which is great since she's allergic to cow and soy!

The best part is playing in the empty brown box.

Another Day, Another Day

The Stroller is all tanked up and ready to go!

Sarah and Miles depart for a nice walk.

Miles: captured in rare Living Room sunlight.

This is probably the best baby shirt ever.

Miles is definitely the cutest baby ever.

At Chipotle, Miles tries to tackle a paper cup.

Why isn't there anything in this cup?

Hi Dad! Are you looking at me?

This restaurant sure is metallic.

Eating

Eating can be quite interesting. This was all one meal.

Portland Farmer's Market - First Day!

The Farmer's Market at Portland State University downtown opened this past Saturday. It's been three long cold months since we last walked the crowded lanes of delicious local and mostly organic foods and flowers. Miles seemed to find it interesting as he took in the views and sounds while carried around by Sarah. Light rain fell and the trees are all still bare, but we're excited that the Market is back for the season!

Portland Farmer's Market - nestled among the cold naked trees.

I think someone invented some new colors for chard. Ridiculous.

The Farmer's Market chard is always HUGE! We bought an orange bunch this week.

We picked up some French Breakfast radishes (the long skinny ones at the bottom).

These were the best carrots. Another stand was selling little pencils they called carrots.

Brown pears. I don't like pears.

The local music scene. Sometimes there's a guy with a washboard. Upturned hat required.

Sarah and Miles. "Stop taking pictures and catch up!"

To Eat or Play with the Bib

Ready for dinner.
Sweet potatoes are not his favorite.
Soon Miles will do his own laundry.

New High Chair

This is the "Phil & Ted's Metoo" high chair.
It clamps onto the table - saving space and helps the baby feel closer to the family!
So far, Miles seems to like it - for a short time. Then he wants out!

Put A Bird On It

Saturday, February 26, 2011

I never thought I'd be so happy to eat a salad!

It's been nearly 2 months on the elimination diet, and it's been very beneficial. It took abut 3 weeks for my system, and then Miles's system, to completely flush out and become regular again. Yellow is the "in" color now (you parents will know what I mean). It was really tough to choose which foods I wanted to add first, because of course I wanted more variety, but I also needed foods that were simple to prepare and would go with what was already on the menu. In order, here's what I added:

  • bananas
  • melon
  • carrots
  • salmon
  • chicken
  • eggs -- this one was a bigger risk, but it doesn't seem to bother Miles! Woohoo! So now I can have hard boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, frittata /crustless quiche, and homemade mayonnaise.
  • quinoa
  • lettuce
  • sprouts (home grown alfalfa sprouts, I have to brag)

I've been having a hard time adding in veggies because there's not much in season right now except winter squash, and the other veggies we could get at the store are all cruciferous (typically gassy), so they're on the "No" list for awhile yet with nuts, tomatoes, shellfish and the like. Luckily, Spring is upon us soon and so will be the green beans, asparagus, radishes, and arugula...Mmmm!

If it seems like I haven't added a whole bunch of food yet, that's because not every food I tried worked out. We already knew soy and chocolate are on the "No" list, but we had some issues with chickpeas, sesame seeds (and sesame oil), and coconut milk. Bummer!

All Sorts of Things

Ring of Pillows - protector of bonk'd heads.

Sarah and Miles - waiting for the bus.
This is very comfortable.

Miles has his first avocado!

What? No corn chips?!?

Olive poses elegantly beside a butternut squash.

Miles works on his teething while Olive sneaks up behind him.

Mr. Smiles!

What are eyebrows?

Ok already. Let's go outside. I've got my red socks on!

Miles and Paul - doing nothing.
