Community Supported Agriculture

Last month we joined a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture). We are currently signed up with Hood River Organic which is about 75 miles east of Portland. We prepaid for three months and every other week a box of fresh vegetables is delivered right to our door. The contents vary throughout the season depending on what the farm is growing. Besides having access to fresh vegetables and the opportunity to try some that we might not normally purchase (like beets and turnips), we like to support local businesses and eat healthy organic vegetables.

This week our box contains red potatoes, purple top turnips, mushrooms, red radishes, bok choy, chives, salad mix and braising greens! This is the first week that we have not received pears or apples. In the last few weeks we had also received beets and a micro mix of salad sprouts.

  1. We have something similar in the UK, called Able & Cole - I can't wait to get my own place and order my box of veggies! Looks yum.
